Special Olympics
The Kennewick Police Department and the KPOBA have been involved with the Special Olympics fundraising, from the Polar Plunge, the Law Enforcement Torch Run (where groups of Officers assist in running the torch from Spokane to Seattle, teams of Officers take turns running miles at a time passing the torch off until it reaches its final destination), to Assisting this past year in 2019 awarding the participants with their medals.
The KPOBA is committed to raising awareness and funds to assist the wonderful athletes of the Special Olympics.
National Night Out
National Night Out was first introduced in August of 1984 through an already established network of law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch groups, civic groups, state and regional crime prevention associations and volunteers across the nation.
The Kennewick Police Department participates in meeting with the community, having food, Police and Fire vehicles and festivities for the whole family.
In the beginning Officers went out to various apartment complex’s around town but since 2014 the event was moved to the Southridge Sports Complex and continues to be held there every year.
We encourage you to come out and support Nation Night Out and say hi to our Officers of the K.P.O.B.A. and our friends, the Fire Fights and get some amazing food from local vendors.
To find out more about the Kennewick National Night Out, visit the City website and check the calendar.
We hope to see you there.
Committed to Your Safety,
James Canada

Charity Basketball Game
The KPOBA and the Kennewick Fire Firefighters got together in 2010 and started a charity basketball game. The game pits the Officers vs the Fire Fighters in a basketball game with lots of side games including pop a shot and an all cash half court shot at halftime. The entrance to the game is by donation and can goods, the money raised goes towards needy families that are chosen by the KPOBA and the Fire Fighters Association.
After the game the money raised is spent on the chosen families to help give them a wonderful holiday season. Families have been selected through the years through the Kennewick School District to families we have come in contact with through the community.
To date the KPOBA has assisted many families and have together raised over $45,000 in money that has been spent over the years on families that are selected to get assistance during the holidays. The K.P.O.B.A. has enjoyed putting on this great event and look forward to continuing this great display of athleticism, and the giving spirit of the community to come together to show what a big heart this community has.
This years game will be played in December and once the details have been finalized, we will post the flier for the game and you will be able to participate in helping raise funds that go to helping needy families during the holidays. Please if you know of families that need assistance during the holidays please let us know.
Respectfully,
James Canada
